Cambridge Firefighters Local 910

Smoke Detector and Battery Replacement

Operation Alert and Alive

Cambridge Firefighters Local 910 started Operation Alert and Alive in 1988. The program supplies smoke detectors for senior citizens and batteries for any residents living in the City of Cambridge or Cambridge Township. In 1992, the department took over the program and continued operating it in the same manner. In 2002, Local 910 started a program to give away smoke detectors to Kindergarten and first grade students' families who didn't have any. From 2002 to the beginning of 2007 the Local 910 installed 50 smoke detectors to needy families. Then in 2007, the Union decided to merge the two programs and take charge of Operation Alert and Alive. This program has always been funded entirely by donations such as IAFF Local 910, civic groups, insurance companies, businesses, private citizens, etc.
